Description: Blaffer Gallery, the Art Museum of the University of Houston, is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Museum Preparator to coordinate the fabrication, installation and disassembly of art exhibitions.
Specific job duties:
- Prepares, hangs, installs and de-installs works of art utilizing proper handling and security techniques.
- Selects, schedules and supervises installation crew for exhibition installations, packing and unpacking of loans, and special projects.
- Oversees the painting and construction of pedestals, vitrines, fixtures and other finished structures for the display of works of art.
- Collaborates with exhibition curators on the design and construction of special exhibit effects and temporary partitions.
- Implements procedures for installation of works of art to ensure installations meet safety requirements.
- Reviews upcoming projects to determine materials and services required; produces work schedules.
- Coordinates the care, maintenance and storage of the collection.
- Coordinates the scheduling of ongoing maintenance for galleries, and ensures that gallery spaces are well maintained and presentable to the public.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires a 4 year degree. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in museum installation arrangement.
