>  Due to the huge response to our CALL FOR ENTRY, we experienced a few technical difficulties with our database which has delayed our announcement date. We will now be announcing our group exhibition artists on SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2008. All updated information can be found on our website and everyone that applied will receive a letter regarding their status as the September date approaches.

  The Texas Biennial, Austin announces:

2009 Texas Biennial

Temporary Outdoor Project Artist Selection

Temporary Public Art Exhibition dates: March 6 – December 30, 2009

The 2009 Texas Biennial is pleased to announce our first artist selection for our upcoming exhibition. One fresh component of our 2009 project is the collaboration with the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program of the Cultural Arts Division within the Economic Growth & Redevelopment Services Office.  This new partnership allows for the Texas Biennial to promote and fund artists’ creation of unique outdoor work that will redefine the Austin park landscape. At the same time, this work will be in direct conversation with the additional art exhibitions that will dot our city in various venues.

After careful consideration from our jurors, Michael Duncan and Risa Puleo, we are pleased to reveal our seven selected artists for the 2009 Temporary Outdoor project.  The Texas Biennial, in conjunction with the City of Austin’s Art in Public Places program, are enthusiastic about providing these Texas artists with the rare opportunity to rethink park land and produce an inventive utilization of ordinary outdoor space

We hope that these 7 projects will spur a dialogue that goes beyond the conventional gallery walls and provides a resonating force that encourages a critical analysis of exactly what art making in the public realm can mean in 2009 Texas.

Congratulations to:

Ryah Christensen, Austin, TX

Bill Davenport, Houston, TX

Sasha Dela, Houston, TX

Buster Graybill, Huntsville, TX

Ken Little, San Antonio, TX

Colin McIntyre, Austin, TX

Jill Pangallo, Austin, TX

2009 Texas Biennial
An independent survey of contemporary Texas art
March 6 – April 11, 2009

The 2009 Texas Biennial is the third of its kind since it’s inception in 2005. With each exhibition, the Biennial project has provided a fresh perspective on the scope of Texas contemporary art.  The originators of the Texas Biennial have succeeded in culminating an initiative that voices the distinctive diversity of art making in Texas. In the same independent spirit as years past, the 2009 Texas Biennial will encourage conversations amongst artists, curators, writers and art lovers alike.  This effort will ultimately spark a dialogue that will echo throughout the run of the 3rd biennial exhibition and beyond.  As an independent survey of contemporary art in Texas, the 2009 Biennial is excited to use this opportunity to investigate current art making in Texas and promote the incredible innovation that lies within our great state.
